Summer Library Program 2026

 Our theme this summer is A Summer of Together!
As always, programs are FREE and open to all!
Some programs are designed for specific age groups, so please check the age suggestions.

Bookmark Reading Challenges

Stop by the library to grab any of the bookmarks above (or all 5) and complete at least 5 items on each one. 

As you complete the challenges on each bookmark, return them to the library to choose a prize. Limit of 5/person. Each individual completed bookmark you return, enters you into an end of summer grand prize drawing!  

Grab and Go Crafts

Pick up a craft kit at the front desk!

Duck-orating Contest

Pick up the rubber duck from the front desk at and use your creativity to decorate with a Summer Theme to enter the contest and be displayed in the library!
Rules: 
  • Use the rubber duck provided by the library.
  • Decorate your duck with a Summer Theme. 
  • Limit 1 entry per person. 
  • All entries must be in good taste. We reserve the right to omit any inappropriate entries. 
  • By entering the contest, you give the library permission to take picture of your creation and share them and your first name online and/or in print. 
  • Two judging categories- Teen (6th grade-18) & Adult (18+). 
  • Winner will be determined by popular vote, 1 vote per person, per visit. Grand prize for both categories!
  • Entries due by 8/1/26 and a final vote tally the week of 8/17/26.
These contests, challenges, and crafts are open to those entering 6th grade and up!
Additional Information
  • Adventure Pass Information-The Barlow Library is participating in a program that allows library patrons to check out a pass for 2 adults and 2 children to the Blank Park Zoo, Reiman Gardens, Grout Museum, and the Science Center of Iowa.  Click on the link above to reserve your tickets. 
  • Get a Library Card- Residents of Iowa Falls and surrounding communities are eligible to obtain a library card free of charge.  A photo ID with your current address is required.  If your ID does not list your current address, a piece of mail is required to confirm your address.  
  • Graphix & Book Club-Join us to discuss 2 different titles!  Ages 8-12 welcome.  Stop in to the library anytime in June to get the book, Allergic by Megan Warner Lloyd, for the first meeting on June 26th and the July book, Frindle by Andrew Clements on July 24th. 
  • Kids Lego Club-Join us for Lego free build Tuesday afternoons from 3:30-4:30PM.  Available for ages 17 and under only.  Free and no registration required! **NO LEGO CLUB: July 7th
